February 11, 1965 — May 27, 2025

 

 Steven “Cal” J. Hamilton, a cherished husband, father, grandpa, and friend, died on May 27, 2025. He was born on February 11, 1965, and was a beloved member of the Syracuse community, well-known for his diligence, humor, and strong familial ties.

Steven dedicated his professional life to sales, showcasing his social personality including auto parts and door-to-door vacuum sales. It was through these connections that he built a well-known reputation as a friendly and approachable figure in the community. In addition to his sales career, he actively pursued farming in his free time, exemplifying his strong work ethic. Steven had a vibrant personality that drew people to him. He was known for his humor and ability to make others laugh, always ready with a joke or a warm smile. He was not only hard-working but also incredibly accepting, embracing all those around him with open arms. Family was of utmost importance to Steven, and he dedicated much of his time and energy to creating a loving home for his wife and children. His sociability made him a well-loved member of the community, known by many and cherished by all.

A fervent Raiders supporter, Steven also showed his competitive nature as a wrestler in high school. Pitch, darts, pool, cattle exhibiting, and bowling were among his numerous awards-winning pastimes. He loved animals and loved spending time with his family. His favorite memories were of his trips and adventures with his kids, which demonstrated his commitment to making memories with the people he cared about the most.

His proudest accomplishments were undeniably his family. He is survived by his wife, Leslie Hamilton; his loving children, Lyza Youngs, Steven (Laura Avery) Hamilton II, Jay Hamilton, Howie Lum, Sebastian Lum, Jackson Hamilton, and John-Oliver Hamilton; father, James Hamilton and siblings, Pat Hamilton, Cindy Nappi, and Tom (Theresa) Hamilton. Steven’s legacy will also live on through his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his late wife, Becky Hamilton, and his mother, Margaret (Storrier) Hamilton.

Calling hours will be held on June 3, 2025, from 4:00 – 8:00 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, located at 705 N Main St, Syracuse, NY 13212. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Steven’s memory may be made to the National Alliance on Mental Illness- NYC.

As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we remember Steven J. Hamilton as a beacon of laughter and love, a steadfast worker, and above all, a devoted family man. His spirit will undoubtedly live on within the hearts of those he touched.
